Plenary session at the 5th Biennial Language Research Symposium

Come to this hybrid event on multilingualism in action: a dialogue between South Africa and the Netherlands on November 24th! Everyone is welcome! Students, teachers, experts, you name it!

The African Language Day (Día de las Lenguas Africanas) emerges as a dissemination initiative led by BAQONDE and successfully establishes itself as a communication bridge between Africa and the Spanish university community with the support of various local, national and international collaborators. In this annual event, this forum will continue to celebrate the indigenous languages of the featured African country.

The School School of Linguistic, Speech, and Communication Sciences (Trinity College Dublin) is organizing the International Symposium Multilingualism in South Africa. This dissemination event represents an opportunity to spread the knowledge, the vision of BAQONDE, and the specificities of the South African context in this complex field.

The upcoming 2nd BAQONDE Showcase seeks to disseminate more examples of best practices in fostering the use of African languages in Higher Education. The event will be held online via Zoom, hosted by Prof. Lorna Carson (Trinity College Dublin), and will focus on practical applications in specialized subjects.

Professor Nobuhle Hlongwa (BAQONDE leader at UKZN), Dean and Head of the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Arts, has been elected as the new Chairperson for Universities South Africa’s (USAf) Community of Practice for the Teaching and Learning of African Languages (CoPAL).
